SUMMER THEATRE MEETING 06
Hi everyone. It is time again for FUWPAA ry’s summer meeting and summer theatre in the Raseborg ruins with the Swedish musical UNDER TORPARSOLEN. This is Finland’s largest Swedish summer theatre, and with the ruins in the background, certainly one of the most impressive! I år firar Raseborgs
Sommarteater 40-årsjubileum med att sätta upp sångspelet Under
Torparsolen, som handlar om torparlivet i Västnyland och Snappertuna
under slutet av 1800-talet. Premiär blir det torsdag 29 juni, och en särskild
jubileumsföreställning ordnas lördag 15 juli. Föregående kväll,
fredag 14 juli, ordnas en nostalgikonsert
med Raseborgsmelodier från fyra årtionden. The
date for the theatre is Saturday 15th of July at 5 p.m. The prices are 20 euros for adults and 10 for children. As usual, we invite everyone to stay with us in our home at Lappvik where we have beds for everyone to stay from Friday till Sunday. Just bring yourself and come to meet all and have fun. We have the possibility for windsurfing and swimming nearby at our 2.5 kilometer long Lappvik beach, as well as a big garden for other fun and games. for her parents to rescue her from the Municiple Orphanage and its
mean-spirited matron, Agatha Hannigan. When billionaire Oliver Warbucks
stumbles upon the little orphan and decides to adopt her, he must first
deal with Miss Hannigan's oportunistic schemes.) The

kertaa mukana tapaamisessa oli edustaja Eestistä, Marius Mets.
Hän on Eestin yhteyshenkilö admissions-asioissa. Timo Sarojärvi kertoi yhdistyksen rekisteröinnistä. FUWPAA on viimeinkin viety yhdistysrekisteriin. Mm. tulevia kiertueita ja nettisivujen tekoa sivuttiin keskustelussa. |

Suomalaisia kiertueella 2004 Heinä-elokuun vaihteessa uusittu Up With People WorldSmart -ohjelma starttasi Denverissä, CO. Tässä pioneeriryhmässä aloitti 85 opiskelijaa 26 eri maasta eli cast on yksi kansainvälisimmistä kautta Up With People:n historian. Eurooppalaisia ryhmässä on 42%, Pohjois-Amerikasta 35%, Aasiasta 13% ja Etelä-Amerikasta 10%. Ryhmässä matkustaa myös 3 suomalaisia: Jenna Juurinen, Joonas Kolehmainen ja Outi Perttunen. Heidän kiertuettaan Pohjois-Amerikassa, Japanissa ja Euroopassa voit seurata internetissä osoitteessa www.worldsmart.org. Myöskin Outin ja Joonaksen matkakirjeitä löytyy näiden FUWPAA:n sivujen What is UWP? -valikon alta. Kiertue kestää yhden lukukauden eli joulukuulle asti. Ensi vuoden helmikuussa matkaan lähteekin uusi ryhmä ja toivottavasti lisää suomalaisia nuoria sen mukana. Hakemuksia ensi vuodelle otetaan parhaillaan vastaan ja haastatteluja järjestetään hakijoille joustavasti tarpeen mukaan joko henkilökohtaisesti tai puhelimitse. Syystapaaminen 2004 FUWPAA järjestää toiminnallisen syystapaamisen Helsingissä lauantaina 20.11. (varapäivä 21.11.). Ajatuksena on koota omasta jäsenistöstämme mielenkiintoista ohjelmaa monipuoliseen päivään. Vaikka ohessa onkin annettu alustava runko ohjelmasta, ideoita ja ehdotuksia otetaan vielä vastaan. Mitä sinä haluaisit nähdä, kuulla tai kokea? Jos ohjelmaa tulee yli äyräiden, tapahtumaa voidaan toki jakaa kahdellekin päivälle. ;c) Kaikki ohjelman osiot eivät ole vielä vahvistettuja ja muutenkin aikatauluun ja paikkoihin voi tulla vielä muutoksia. Pyrimme siihen, että kuluja tulee mahdollisimman vähän, jotta mahdollisimman monella olisi tilaisuus osallistua päivään. (Maksulliset osiot mainittu suluissa.) Alumni! As you probably know, atleast I hope so, the first
Worldsmart program is on the road. You can follow their tour on http://www.upwithpeople.org/
and click on 'Where is WorldSmart now'. The crew has a News journal that
is updated weekly and you sign to receive weekly WorldSmart news. We have a next crew leaving in February and we are
looking for new participants. Maybe you know someone that
would be suited for the program or maybe you are willing to post the
information on a website or at a school. The requirements for the program are: International youth ages 18-29 High school/secondary school graduate English language proficiency - oral and written Leadership potential and experience Intercultural experience Stamina -- excellent physical and mental health to
deal with changes and challenges of the program Community service or volunteer experience Application process is: Online application Essay Two letters of recommendation Application fee -- US $50 Interview - telephone or in person This is quite an easy way for alumni to be involved,
so I hope you are able to assist us in this process. We are also looking

overview. Please use this when recruiting
participants, describing the program, and working with LOCs and other
community representatives. We will continue to revise this document as
the program evolves. However, please use this version through the fall
recruiting cycle. I am also updating the longer "curriculum
overview" document, which looks similar to this one, but has more
content regarding the direct instruction content. Stay tuned for that
one! One piece of feedback that we have heard from several
participants was that the program was described differently to different
participants. In order to maintain relative consistency of expectations
with the participants, we all need to describe the program in the same
fashion-with the same general focus. While some audiences may require or
request a focus on one aspect of the program more than others, we need
to all be clear on the overall focus and structure is the same. If you
find that this program overview does not meet the needs of a particular

Alumni Cast to perform at World Expo 2005 in Japan The Board of Governors of the Up with People International Alumni Association announces the creation of a new alumni outreach program. The purpose of the program is to engage UWP alumni in an annual international service and community outreach project, sparking alumni, their family and friends to action in their global community. We're excited to announce that the first project of the new program will be an Asian Initiative. The 2005 World Exposition Organizing Committee has invited us to participate in the 2005 World Expo in Aichi, Japan. With the guidance and advice of Blanton Belk, Mia Hansen, Ken Ashby and Maris Segal are developing a musical program and service initiative that will involve as many as 100 alumni. Says Ken Ashby: ''We will present a production called ''The Tree of Nations.'' This will be approximately 30 minutes in length involving 75-100 international performers. It will reflect the spirit of the Up with People International Alumni Association and the themes of Expo 2005.'' As explained by the World Expo organizing committee, ''Humanity cannot live in isolation, and it is imperative that our lives be compatible with the rest of the global ecosystem. Rediscovering nature's wisdom, we must alter the relationship between humanity and technology as well as the social relations among people themselves.'' The musical selections will combine numerous original songs that speak to the World Expo theme of ''Nature's Wisdom,'' along with exciting traditional songs and dances. Performances at Expo 2005 will take place August 10-14. The group will also undertake service projects in the Aichi/Nagoya area during their stay. We are working on the possibility that, after the World Expo, a core group of alumni would travel to Thailand, where they would perform several shows to benefit the thousands of children orphaned by the recent tsunamis. The project leaders hope that the performances, along with related service projects, would provide human, spiritual and financial aid to these children who were most affected by the disaster. ''I am so pleased that the UWPIAA is going forth into the world with a message of hope and international understanding using the mediums of performance and service,'' says Blanton Belk. ''The world needs it now more than ever, and they have my full active support for this important initiative.'' HOW TO HELPThe Asian Initiative group needs your help in several important areas. Alumni Participation If you think your expertise, ideas or participation will work within the context of this project, please email Sary Garcia at PresidentElect@uwpiaa.org. We envision the entire project involving about a four-week commitment, beginning with rehearsals the latter part of July, just before reunion. Institutional/Corporate/Significant Gifts We are seeking six to eight anchor gifts/sponsorship of $50,000 to ensure the project will have the intended impact. Individual Alumni Gifts You can make a big difference to the scope and impact of this project. Send a gift to the UWPIAA and designate it to be used for this important initiative.
